 Bears that care
Teddy bears are renowned for their healing hugs and have helped many children around the world in times of need.
Pudsey Bear helps Britain’s Children in Need charity raise millions of pounds every year. In America the Good Bears of the World organisation collects and distributes teddies to sick children.
Teddies can also teach! Children learn about the dangers of fire with the aid of Blaze Bear from the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund and Smokey Bear, the US Forest Fire Prevention Campaign mascot. In primary schools, Barnaby Bear helps to make geography lessons fun. The children take the teddy in turns and write about their adventures with him.
Some bears are designed especially to help children who are poorly or having a difficult time. The teddy can comfort them or help them understand their illness.
