A photograph of the former Liverpool Speke Airport, a typically 1930s building constructed in a gentle curve with a central octagonal tower, completed in 1939 and designed by architect Edward Bloomfield. The airport had initially operated from some temporary modified farm buildings from 1933 but this was the first purpose built building incorporating a terminal and control tower plus hangars. The building is a strong visual statement emphasising the city’s aspirations to continue its legacy as a centre of transport.

This terminal building is no longer operational. A new site houses the current terminal, Liverpool John Lennon Airport| and the original buildings have since been converted into a hotel.

Note the damage on the top two corners of the glass plate.
