Waterfront, docks and shipping

Stewart Bale collection online exhibition

This is the first in a series of online exhibitions| dedicated to the Stewart Bale photographic collection| to highlight the breadth of its subject matter.

This exhibition concentrates on what has changed on the waterfront and what has remained the same. The Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building are constants found in three of these images, whilst the liners and cargo handling techniques have now become part of the port’s history. The act of ferrying from Liverpool to other locations along the Mersey still, of course, continues, although these particular ferry boats are no longer in commission.
