Ship models

The Merseyside Maritime Museum holds one of the finest collections of ship models in the world. These models reflect Merseyside's long ship owning, seafaring and ship building traditions. Models were often made to show owners what their ship would look like. They could also commemorate famous or important ships.

The models in this collection date from the 17th until the late 20th century. They include the Pilkington Collection of miniature ships made by French Prisoners of War.

Further information about the collection can be found in 'The Ship Models Collection, Merseyside Maritime Museum', by Dr Alan Scarth, curator of ship models. Copies are available from the Merseyside Maritime Museum shop, or by mail order.
