'PS Victory' by Samuel Walters (1811 - 1882)

Oil on canvas, 33 x 63cm

The paddle steamer 'Victory' was built in Liverpool in 1832 for the St George Steam Packet Company of Cork. She was one of a number of paddle steamers operating between various ports in England and Ireland, in particular Cork and Bristol. The flag on the foremast, which features a horse, indicates she is carrying mail for the Post Office. She is shown in heavy seas off the Irish coast near Cork.
