'Liverpool pilot schooner Pioneer' by William K McMinn (1820-1898)

This very detailed view of the number 6 Liverpool pilot boat 'Pioneer' shows her at the mouth of the Mersey. She is towing a punt, which will take a pilot to the next incoming vessel.

'Pioneer' was built by Buckley Jones of Liverpool in 1852. She was the first schooner-rigged boat employed in the Liverpool pilot service.

On permanent loan from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.
