Collections
As well as images of ships, the museum also has a fine collection of paintings of Liverpool. The oldest of these, dating from around 1680 is the earliest known view of the port. Here you can see a selection from these works showing the city's growth from the 17th to the 19th century.

A fully illustrated catalogue of marine paintings in the Merseyside Maritime Museum is available. Written by Anthony Tibbles, curator of maritime history, it provides an excellent overview of the collection. Copies are available from the museum shop or by mail order.
