'Conway under tow by two Rea tugs' by Sam Brown (1873-1963)
The Conway is shown outward bound from the Mersey off the Great Orme, which visible to the right. She is being towed by Aysgarth of the Rea Towing Company, with a companion tug keeping station on the left.
During his lifetime on Merseyside Sam Brown produced a large number of works illustrating the Port of Liverpool and its shipping. As well as privately commissioned watercolours, sketches and a few oil paintings, he provided much work for shipping company posters, postcards and other publicity materials.
