This length of rope was used by Conway chief cadets for corporal punishment of cadets. It was stored in salt water which gave it the feel of a metal bar. Cadets referred to it as a 'teaser'. Up until the 1960s it was used liberally, but as time went on there was more control, so it was only used to deal with serious offences.
It is not currently on display but was included in a temporary display marking the 150th anniversary of HMS Conway at the Maritime Archives and Library.
