Memorial plaque. Small bronze plaque engraved He died for Freedom and Honour, John Henry Hayes (Lusitania engineer). Britannia and lion image & inscription, on one side only, 'He Died for Freedom and Honour, John Henry Hayes'. John Henry Hayes was Junior 5th Engineer on Lusitania who died when the ship was torpedoed and sunk. These plaques were commonly known as 'dead man's penny'. The image shows Britannia standing facing right holding the trident with her right hand and a wreath in the other. In the foreground a male lion stands facing right. The plaque usually comes with the memorial scroll.
