About this object

Radio room key from Lusitania, stamped Chubbs detector. Used by Marconi radio operator Robert Leith. Robert, of Wallasey, was a key crew member on the last voyage as he received the warning messages in the lead up to the sinking, and was responsible for transmitting the fina SOS messages before leaving the ship. He must have slipped the key in to his pocket on leaving. He survived the sinking.
