Seized! Revenue and Customs uncovered' replaces the former Customs and Excise Museum as the national museum of HM Revenue and Customs.

The creation of the Customs and Excise Museum in 1995 was the start of a unique partnership between National Museums Liverpool and HM Revenue and Customs. The result is a combination of National Museums Liverpool’s museum management and exhibition skills and the subject matter of HM Revenue and Customs.

In 1994 the director of National Museums Liverpool invited HM Customs and Excise (as HM Revenue and Customs was known at the time) to house their national collection at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. The first gallery opened in 1995 exploring the department's contemporary work. This was followed in 1997 with the history gallery.

In 2005 the government department HM Customs and Excise merged with the Inland Revenue to become HM Revenue and Customs. The museum has now changed too. The new museum, along with its new name, will build on the success of the original, while bringing the story of HM Revenue and Customs right up to date.

Museum staff would like to thank everyone in HM Revenue and Customs for their help and support, which ensures the continued success of their museum.
