This former gallery was originated and generously supported by the Peter Moores Foundation. It examined transatlantic slavery and sought to increase understanding of what has happened to people of African descent in the modern world.
The former Transatlantic Slavery gallery was so successful that we have expanded it to create the new International Slavery Museum. Please note that the Transatlantic Slavery gallery has closed now that the new museum has opened.
You can find out more about the history of slavery in the following sections of the International Slavery Museum's website:
You can also follow four Africans as they are taken and sold into slavery in our online feature Slaves' stories.
