Merseyside Maritime Museum's collection of works on paper includes more than 800 posters, watercolours, prints and drawings. The majority of the works were produced between the 18th and 20th centuries.
The collection represents the strong tradition of marine art in the port of Liverpool. It focuses on artworks produced by artists with strong local or regional connections, or depicts strong Liverpool subjects.
Themes include views of the port and of vessels built or owned in Liverpool, as well as scenes of life on board ship or at the dockside.
There are also works with connections to Liverpool merchants and shipping companies.
