Made at a time of changing representations of working class lives, A Taste of Honey explores attitudes of the late 1950s towards class, race, gender and sexuality against a backdrop of the industrial north.

Liverpool born Rita Tushingham and Murray Melvyn went on to receive Best Actress and Actor awards at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival for their performances.
