About this object

This snuff box was presented to Liverpool pilot, Samuel Jones in 1842. It is inscribed 'presented to Samuel Jones of pilot Boat No.4, in admiration of his conduct whilst in charge of the Ship Grace for Antigua, off the Banks on the night of 25 Oct 1842'.

Samuel Jones was born in 1815, and was a Liverpool pilot from 1837-1876. He died in 1900.
