Anglo Saxon

The Anglo Saxon period in Britain began shortly after Roman rule in Britain came to an end, around 410 AD, and lasted until the Norman conquest in 1066 AD.

In the 400s and 500s AD there was a period of immigration into England from Northern Germany and Southern Scandinavia. The people who arrived were known as Angles, Saxons and Jutes. They did not settle in Merseyside until after the Battle of Chester in 614 AD, when this area became part of the Kingdom of Northumbria.
