PLACENAME: La Ashton (first mentioned 1255). Farmstead where ash grew. From Old English 'Aesctūn'.
Stanley Bank (19th century) was a metalworking watermill where iron and copper were smelted. It was connected to another smelting mill at Carr Mill via canal.
