PLACENAME: Marked on maps as Club Moor (eg on the 1838 Tithe Map). The name indicates that this area was once moor land. A polished stone axe or hammer (possibly bronze age) was found at Clubmoor recreation ground during excavations for air raid shelters during the Second World War.
The Farmer's Arms (1920s) is a rebuild of a public house of the same name on the same site, which was recorded on the first edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey map. A 19th century bowling green behind the pub still exists. Image of the Farmer's Arms in 1926 courtesy of Liverpool Record Office.
