PLACENAME: Dingyll (first mentioned 1246). Deep dell, or village situated around a creek. From Middle English 'Dingyll'.
Princes' Park was designed by Joseph Paxton in 1842 and laid out over the next two years. It was part of the development of housing in the area. It was a private park until 1918. Roman coins have been found on London Grove.
St Michael's Church is constructed on the site of a medieval chapel dedicated to St Wilfred. This church (dated 1814) was built by John Cragg and Thomas Rickman. It uses iron within the structure and for decorative features such as pinnacles. Image courtesy of Liverpool Record Office.
