Garston

PLACENAME: Gerstan (first mentioned 1094). The great stone or grazing town. From Old English grëat and stän or gærs and tün. Grestan c1155; Garston c1265.

Garston Village Cross

Garston Village Cross (Medieval) is now relocated in the grounds of St Francis of Assisi Church on Earp Street, though remains are only fragmentary.

Garston Water Mill

Garston Water Mill was used to mill corn. The original mill was 13th century and it was rebuilt in the 15th century. It was converted to steam in the 19th century but after reuse became derelict by 1934.

A flint flake artefact (probably Neolithic) was discovered in 1990 on wasteland near Garston docks.
