Halewood

PLACENAME: Halewode (first mentioned 1200). Wood by hale. From Old English halh, meaning nook.

The Old Hutt is a Medieval moated manor site. It had a brick gatehouse and a sandstone manor house. In 1662 it was taxed for 22 hearths.

Eagle and Child pub

Halewood Brewery stood near St Nicholas' Church in the 19th century. Bottles and jars were found on the site in the 1970s.

The site of the former brewery is behind the Eagle and Child public house.

Court Farm was excavated in 1996-7. This mortarium found on the site is an unusually complete example of a Roman mixing bowl.
