PLACENAME: Hedoc (first mentioned 1169). Place where barley is grown. From the Welsh Heiddiog. Heddoch (1170); Haidoc (1212); Heydock (1508).
Haydock Lock (1853) is a masonry lock and overflow. Fragments of gates and bollards survive along with the foundations of a swing bridge.
