Higher Bebington

Bedintone (first mentioned 1096). Bebba's farm Personal name Bebba and tün. Higher prefix in use by 1724, previously Superior, Upper or Over: Overbubynton (first 342). Bebinton 1280; Bebington 1666.

windmill

A 19th century windmill between School Lane and Mill Brow is marked on the Tithe map of 1844 and the first edition six inch Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1845. This building was constructed of brick. It was demolished in 1971 but the ground plan of brick and a millstone were still present on the site in 1978.

stone axe head

Neolithic polished stone axe head found near Higher Bebington.

A ferry slipway was built in Rock Ferry c1820 by Thomas Morecroft of Liverpool. This became the focus for population increase in the 19th century.
