Hoylake

PLACENAME: Hyle Lake (first mentioned 1687). The name of a roadstead, now silted up, off the north-west coast of Wirral, east of Hilbre, inside Hoyle Bank. Hylake 1709; Hoyle Lake 1796.

Hoylake Lighthouse

Two lighthouses, one wooden, one brick, were in existence in the 1760s.

Site of Stanley's Royal Hotel

Stanley's Royal Hotel (1792) on Stanley Road was a remnant of the establishment of a bathing resort in the township. It was demolished in the mid 20th century.
