Huyton

PLACENAME: Hitune (first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book). Landing place. From Old English hyp-tün. Hutona (1189), Hutton (1268), Huyton (1311).

old church

St Michael's Church sits within a curvelinear churchyard suggesting that there may have been a church on the site before 1066. The present building has some 14th century masonry but was altered in the 19th century.

The Medieval manor of Huyton Hey was owned by the Molyneux-Seel family. The present building, which has a datestone of 1670, has been altered and is now used as a residential home.
