PLACENAME: Kensington (first mentioned 1804). The area takes its name from the stretch of road. It may have taken its name from Kensington in London.
Kensington Library (1890) was designed by Thomas Shelmerdine, the city architect. Photograph © John Bythell Kensington Reservoir was built to provide fresh water from Rivington Pike.
