Kensington

PLACENAME: Kensington (first mentioned 1804). The area takes its name from the stretch of road. It may have taken its name from Kensington in London.

Kensington Library

Kensington Library (1890) was designed by Thomas Shelmerdine, the city architect.

Kensington Reservoir was built to provide fresh water from Rivington Pike. Marked on the Ordnance Survey first edition six inch map (1851), it is still in use but now undercover.
