PLACENAME: Crosebi (first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book). Village with a cross. From Old Norse Krossabýr. Crossebeyam 1094, Little Crosseby 1243. A stone rotary quern used for grinding corn in the Post Medieval period was found in Little Crosby.  Three Medieval crosses (Scheduled Ancient Monuments) stand in the area including the Harkirk Cross illustrated here. |
