PLACENAME: Neusum (first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book). New house. Newsham House gave its name to Newsham Park and the surrounding area. Neusun 1196; Newsham's 1768.
Newsham House (late 18th century) was home of the Molyneux family. Adjoining farmland was sold in 1846 to the Liverpool Corporation who bought the bulk of the estate for £85,000. The corporation first established Newsham Park in 1868. Photograph of Newsham Park © Russell Oakes.
