PLACENAME: Ogelot (first mentioned 1275). Oak tree by a watercourse. Oglot c1300; Oglet 1323.
A World War II anti-aircraft battery was constructed at Oglet. The site of the former battery, to the east of Speke Hall, is close to the Liverpool John Lennon Airport runway. Image courtesy of Liverpool Record Office. Neolithic flint scatters have been located during field-walking, south of Oglet Lane, close to the Mersey shore. This suggests the inhabitation of the area in the Prehistoric period, or possibly simply its use in fishing. Back to the top | Back up to Central Liverpool | Back up to Merseyside |
