Roby

PLACENAME: Rabil (first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book). Landmark or boundary line, relating to its position on the border of Childwall. From Old Scandinavian rä. Rabi (1185); Raby (1238).

The National Wildflower Centre is housed within Court Hey (1836) which was originally a manor house.

Carr Lane is now a footpath but may have been a Medieval roadway leading from the village to the 'carr' or common land where anyone could graze their animals.

Evidence of even earlier settlement is this Neolithic tanged and barbed arrowhead, found in 1925.
