PLACENAME: Sextone (first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book). Farmstead where sedge grows. From Old Norse Sef tün. Sefftun 1222, Ceffton 1236.

The 18th century Tithe map shows 'Brick Kiln Hey' which suggests that brick-making was practised in the area.

Old Hall Farm is marked on a map of 1769. It was situated within a historic moat.
