PLACENAME: Simonddeswode (first mentioned 1190). Wood belonging to Simond. From Old English Sigemundes wudu. Simundeswod (1297). 
Palaeoecological analysis of soils from the mossland area has shown evidence that woodland here was cleared in the Neolithic period, around 3500BC and again in the Iron Age around 700BC.
