Speke Hall timbers

Speke Hall (c1530) was built by William Norris and extended by his son. It is built around a courtyard and there is evidence that the site was moated although the moat is no longer visible. The building is of local red sandstone and timber framing. It was inhabited until 1943, when it was given to the National Trust.

Speke Airport

Speke Airport, now Liverpool John Lennon Airport, was established during the late 1920s, with a converted farmhouse as the terminal building and control tower. The original building which opened in 1933 is now used as a fitness centre. The replacement airport was built on a site a mile away in 1967 and was itself extended in 2001-2.
