PLACENAME: Sutton (first mentioned 1200). South Town. From Old English sup tun. No variations of the spelling are recorded.

Excavations at Big Lea Green Farm have revealed evidence of Medieval and later activity. This 18th century cup was found on the site.

Micklehead moated site possibly dates from as early as the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 17th century with later additions, then demolished in 1961.
