St John's Market
Transcript for Mr and Mrs Robert Isaac
Mr Isaac: "There was a fish market, you went down Great Charlotte Street, off Elliott Street and on the right hand side there was a fish market but we also had a shop in the main market as well. The way we worked it was you came to town in the morning and ordered the fish then picked it up, because this was one of the best tram stops in Elliott Street coming up from Clayton Square and all the trams coming through. So all the people going home, they’d come in and pick up their orders and take them home."
Interviewer: "So they would have ordered in the morning, on the way to work maybe?"
Mrs Isaac: "Yes, and then picked it up on the way home."
