St John's Market
Transcript for Colin Drakefield
Well behind here originally stood the old St John's Market, which was a beautiful building. It had big towers on either end and doorways And inside it was all the stalls and it was just like one, the roof was all wrought iron and stuff like that. There was just aisles all the way up and down with butchers, fruit stalls, clothing stalls, you name it they had it. Down the side street they used to have stalls at the weekend and they used to sell animals; chickens, dogs, cats everything, you name it. At Christmas time it was buzzing, and all the people would be coming late on to get the Christmas joints cheap, because you know they used to give them away because they didn't have fridges in them days. And you'd get a bargain like, you know.
