The Liver Building was one of the first concrete frames of its kind but the architecture is just the two birds and the clocks. Without the towers it would just be a big commercial block, with the towers it’s a symbol of Liverpool. It’s the strongest symbol of Liverpool that everybody recognises and as I’ve travelled around the world, I’ve lectured about Liverpool and architecture, everybody knows the Liver Building. It’s like the Sydney Opera House; it’s one of the world buildings. More than St George’s Hall. I’d say it’s the symbol of Liverpool.
