The bomb damage was still evident on this stretch of the warehousing (indicates on map), as we say in the canal trade the bottom was too near the top and that was in dire need of dredging, it was completely muddy. They didn’t use any of this area for shipping. we would take the car and have lunches at the back, on the sea wall at the back of what is now the Tate gallery and then was a bonded warehouse and you definitely didn’t go in there but this area was still in water, as they say, and had a lot of yachts and that kind of thing in it.
