In the area further south, certainly along Wapping and Chanoler Street. I certainly remember a very large disused railway goods warehouse depot around Park Lane area but in the side streets there were firms like rice millers, I think Heaps Rice Mill which carried on for quite a while and was in this area. In the smaller side streets, they were canyon like streets between very high warehouses and tucked in within this would be things like ships chandlers, rope makers, firms making chains and sails and some of these were still active but a lot of them were buildings that were boarded up but still had their original use and signs.
