When I was walking around I’d see a lot of boarded up places. I remember one in the south dock area and I think it was called Voss Motors and it had a post poster ‘moved to Aigburth’. That was very typical; lots of businesses that carried on trading the properties had got old or the demand patterns had changed so they moved to other areas and the population had moved so the pubs and local shops weren’t needed so much. So to people who were living there and had seen it thriving it must have felt like they were in a very isolated area.
