The big incident there was when Henderson’s department store burnt down and I was working in Coopers that afternoon, in the summer and when we realised, I watched the whole thing from the third floor of Coopers, people jumping off the roof and killing themselves or being, you know, I mean mortally wounded. It was a horrendous afternoon that, which has stayed with me all my life.
