My memories of Central Station were that the trains still ran not underground and the line went straight out, it served Central England and that’s why it was probably called Central. We went on what were the first diesel trains and it was quite an adventure going to Manchester then for a night out and then getting on the last train back to make sure we could get home, that was great fun! Cerise was, what would you call her? A transvestite really, she did have a sex change. But she used to come to the station, this was at Central, and because the carriages weren’t corridors, they were separate blocks, we’d all get in one and then she’d get completely changed. Get in the train as a guy and we’d get off in Manchester with her as a lady, in inverted brackets as a lady.
