Michael Corboy was born in Newry, County Armagh, Ireland, on 25 August 1867, the son of Daniel and Mary Corboy. He was unmarried, and his mother had been widowed twice. The first time from Daniel Corboy, and some time later she had married a man named Kelly, who also predeceased her.
He served as a fireman in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania and was killed when she sunk. He was aged 47 years, although Cunard records and the records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission state his age as being 49 years.
His body was not found and identified afterwards, so his name is embossed on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London.
