John Doyle was born in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland in 1880, the son of Ann and Lawrence Doyle. In 1915, the family home was at 368 Vauxhall Road, Liverpool.
He served as a fireman in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania and was killed when she was sunk.
His body was never recovered and identified afterwards and as a consequence, he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London. He was aged 35.
His brother, Peter Doyle was also lost on the Lusitania and he was aged 32 years.
