William Field was born in Renfrew, Scotland in 1884, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Field. He married Catherine Field (née Doran) and they lived at 38 Ship Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
He served as a trimmer in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania and he was killed when she was sunk. He was aged 31 years.
His body was never recovered and identified after the disaster, so as he has no known grave, he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London.
