Bernard Goodman was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, on 22 April 1896, the son of Michael and Bridget Goodman. He resided with his parents and siblings at 270 Beaufort Street, Liverpool.
He served as a trimmer in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania during her final voyage. When the great liner sank off the Old Head of Kinsale, southern Ireland he was counted amongst the survivors.
Bernard Goodman continued to serve in the mercantile marine until his retirement.
He died in Liverpool in 1967, aged 71 years.
