James Jenkins was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, on the 21st July 1879, the son of James and Sarah Ann Jenkins. He was married to Anne Jenkins (née Reynolds) in Liverpool in 1910, and they lived at 142, Wolfe Street, Toxteth, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
He served as a fireman in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania and was killed when she was sunk. His body was not recovered and identified afterwards.
As a consequence, his name is embossed on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London. He was aged 35 years.
