Richard Owens was born at Kirkdale, Liverpool, Lancashire, in 1882, the son of Richard and Ellen Owens.
In 1901, he married Mary Margaret Lyons in Liverpool, and they lived with their children at 37, Leyden Street, Liverpool.
He served as an engineers' storekeeper in the Engineering Department on board the
Lusitania and was killed when she was sunk.
His body was never found and identified afterwards and as a result, he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine War Memorial at Tower Hill, London. He was aged 32 years.
