Francis “Frank” Verdin was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, on the 15th July 1890, the illegitimate son of Ellen Verdin of 17, Maria Road, Walton, Liverpool, Lancashire, and the eldest of three children born to her, all of whom, apparently, were illegitimate!
Frank served as a sculleryman in the Stewards' Department on board the Lusitania and he lost his life when she was sunk.
His body was never recovered and identified and he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London. He was aged 24 years.
